welcome to our do-it-yourself feature #02! in this tutorial, designer roy vergara does a great job of describing his process for doing a custom munny.
first things first. get yourself a munny if you haven’t done so already. you can start with a pre-designed one or you can hit up our mini pop up store and get one from us. if you don’t have access to a diy figure, check out our do-it-yourself feature #01.

here’s a quick summary of roy’s steps. when you’ve finally gotten your butt of the couch, go ahead and download the diy template from custom toy lab. using this template you can start sketching all your ideas before you go ahead and ruin the actual figure.

once you’ve finalized your design, you’ll need to prep your figure. even though it’s diy munny, it’s safer to prep it by giving him a good o’ bath with soap and warm water.
after that, carefully dis-assemble the munny and cover the joints with masking tape. roy recommends using a foam base for easier painting and handling. after it’s dry, go at it! you can start with sketching with a pencil or start with your choice of paints. roy recommends acrylics, but we’ve found that each medium creates a different effect. once your’re done, hit your munny with a little bit of clear coat and joila! here’s a iphone pic of roy’s creation.
